OPENSOURCE MODERNIZATION SERVICES
SERVICE OVERVIEW
Maxworks helps IT Organizations transition to Opensource Technologies and Modern Software Solutions so that they
can reduce costs and react more nimbly to ongoing business demands.
IT Modernization is the continuous evolution of an organization's existing application and infrastructure software, with the
goal of aligning IT with ever-shifting business needs. Opensource Modernization is IT Modernization via Opensource
Technologies. Opensource Modernization allows organizations to maximize their existing application assets as they move
toward a more open, complete, and integrated application and infrastructure platform.
Maxworks provides Opensource Modernization solutions for medium sized businesses to fortune 1000 sized businesses and government agencies.
On average, these companies spends from 60 to 85 percent of their IT budget maintaining legacy applications that fail to meet the changing
competitive needs of the business.
The Maxworks approach to Opensource Modernization reduces the entire IT Modernization effort down to a series of small affordable
and low risk projects with fast ROI. This approach enables these companies to modernize despite their tight budgets because each
project reduces ongoing cost and adds to the bottom line via fast ROI.
Modernization Target
The Goal of Opensource Modernization is to provide a business with IT capabilities based upon modern software engineering paradigms. Modern software engineering paradigms such a; SOA, Dynamic Modules, Opensource Infrastructure Technologies (middleware and operating systems) and Grid Computing - enable a business to drive down the ongoing TCO (Total Cost of Operation) yet are flexible enough to meet future business needs.
The Maxworks Modernization Process
The first part of the Maxworks Modernization Process is to create a Modernization Roadmap. An Opensource Modernization Road Map is a plan of action for the adoption and on going use of modern software engineering paradigms and technologies within an enterprise. This Maxworks service produces an actionable Road Map designed to meet the businesses' needs. The Road Map renders SOA solutions in short increments (3 to 6 months). Each SOA solution will provide verifiable business value and can be realized by license free Opensource technology (the only exception being those solutions that require Grid Technology).
The second part of the Maxworks Modernization Process is the Business Opportunity Model. Business Opportunity Models Identify enterprise software solutions - based upon modern software engineering paradigms and opensource technologies - that realize specific business opportunities. Each Business Opportunity is a "step" in the overall Modernization Roadmap Plan. Business Opportunity Models support business and technical decisions essential to achieving success within a changing business environment. Both Business Stakeholders and Technical Leads use the Business Opportunity Model as proof that a given technical direction is valid for realizing a given business opportunity. That is, the Business Opportunity Model is proof that IT software solutions will be aligned with Business Objectives. The Business Opportunity Model consists of a proof of concept prototype to prove that the technologies selected will work and diagrams that visually communicate the business value and technical merit of the selected technologies. Business Opportunity Models occupy the same space as the OMG's Business Motivation Model or DODAF Architecture Products and Information Management Support Plans.
Modernization Enterprise Architecture Professionals
We provide three types of software architects; Application Architects, Solutions Architects and Enterprise Architects - all of which are active software developers. All of our software architects are effective communicators which enables them to understand the business needs and to advance their own architectural vision. They have the ability to share and communicate ideas both verbally and in writing to executive staff, business sponsors, and technical resources in clear concise language that is the parlance of each group. Our Software Architects decide which technologies to use and work very closely with developers to ensure proper implementation. They are the link between the needs of the organization and the developers.
Maxworks Software Architects also fill the role of Business Development Technical SME (Subject Matter Expert). Where their contributions to authoring compelling business cases span from the identification, qualification and validation of business development opportunities to the authoring of white papers and the development of proof of concept prototypes.
